Our Story

A little corner of Vietnam on Renfrew Street

About the people behind the kitchen, the family recipes, and why we opened our doors in Glasgow.

Why we started

It began with homesickness

When you live far from home, what you miss most is not the big feasts. It is the hot bowl of phở in the morning, the plate of bún chả with its charcoal smoke, the small cup of coffee dripping slowly through a phin filter.

Little Vietnam exists to keep exactly those flavours — not simplified, not adjusted to be "more Western". We believe good food speaks for itself.

And Glasgow welcomed it. Every day, guests come through the door at number 24 Renfrew Street, sit down beneath the Hội An lanterns and start their meal with a steaming bowl of broth.

The broth is the soul

Beef bones are simmered for hours every single day with cinnamon, star anise, ginger and charred onion. No shortcuts, no packet stock — only time and patience.

Meat is marinated with lemongrass, garlic and shallots, then chargrilled until fragrant. Herbs, beansprouts, lime and chilli always arrive on the side, so every guest can season their own bowl — exactly the way it is eaten in Vietnam.

— Cooked slowly, eaten slowly, and there is always another bowl for you.
